The index pointing up emoji differs from most of the other pointing emojis in that it is viewed palm forward rather than facing the backhand. It almost always depicts the right hand and its default color in usually yellow or, in the case of Samsung, a “flesh colored” pinky beige. Some platforms allow for skin tone modification on this emoji, but the feature is not supported across all devices. It is used to raise attention to a particular point, post or person. It can also be used as a directional “look up!” or to indicate that something is up. In some contexts, it can be used to look for hush as a new point is made.
